Who doesn’t love lipstick? Lipstick is that one makeup product every girl always carries in her handbag. Today I am going to talk about India’s first luxury, clean beauty brand – “asa”.
asa Lipsticks are clean, vegan, cruelty-free and formulated with 94% natural ingredients. These lipsticks are carefully created authentic shades for diverse Indian skin tones and have natural soothing properties.
In this post, I am going to review asa hydra matte lipstick and asa creme lipstick.

How is the packaging?
All asa beauty lipsticks come in a white Aluminium bullet case. And inside that is the lipstick which can be easily replaced with any shade. So basically one is with the case and one is just the refill.

Lipstick with case- Rs. 1150. Only the refills- Rs. 800
How is the formulation and the finish?
These asa crème lipsticks are hydrating as they are infused with Argan oil and give a satin finish on the lips.
asa Hydra-matte lipstick gives a matte finish but is hydrating at the same time.
They both glide on the lips like butter and the formulation doesn’t accentuate the lip lines *a big yay*. I personally prefer hydrating bullet lipstick over liquid lipstick and I loved the way these lipstick made my lips feel. Both the ranges are very comfortable on the lips.
How is the pigmentation?
All the shades from both the ranges are beautifully pigmented. One or 2 swipes and **BOOM** it imparts an opaque color on the lips.
Do they transfer?
Yes, they do get transferred a bit.
How are the shades?
asa crème lipstick – Shade: Plush peony
Beautiful mauve-ish pink shade. MLBB shade for fair skin.
asa crème lipstick – Shade: Charming chestnut
OMG. This is my most favorite shade. It’s THE brownish nude lipstick shade I have been looking for. This might wash you out if you have medium to dark skin tone.
asa Hydra-Matte lipstick – Shade: Bold berry
A beautiful plum-to-berry shade that’s going to suit all skin tones and undertones. If you want to try a fuschia pink but don’t wanna be that loud then this is the shade you can pick.
asa Hydra-Matte lipstick – Shade: Classic cocoa
This is a browny and slightly rusty mix shade which again will suit all skin tones and undertones. A beautiful nude shade for Indian skin tone
asa Hydra-Matte lipstick – Shade: Crushed Cherry
As the name suggests it is the exact cherry shade. If you don’t like the loud red shade then this is the best alternative.
How is the staying power?
The finish, the shades, the feel, the formulation everything is good but these lipsticks don’t last after all day wear. I wish it lasted until night time and not just for the day. I usually apply 1 to 2 coats of lipstick, then smudge and blend it. So when applied in this way, these lipsticks can survive coffee, snacks and a meal. You will need to carry it and re-apply if you want a freshly done up look. I always use bullet lipstick and most of the bullet lipstick doesn’t survive a meal so I am kind of used to reapplying it anyway.
But when applied like a proper lipstick with 2 complete coats they last for 5 to 6 hours and then start to fade out. It really depends on how to prefer applying it.

Hydra-matte despite giving a matte finish is hydrating on the lips.
Both the ranges have beautiful shades.
Shades are available for every Indian skin tone.
Does not feel heavy or tacky on the lips. Lightweight and extremely comfortable to wear.
Free from Animal cruelty, Paraben, Sulphates, Petrochemicals, Mineral oil, TEA, Palm, Carmine, Formaldehyde, Pre-mix bases, Urea, Ammonia, EDTA, Toluene, DEA, MEA, Triclosan.
I have checked the ingredients list, and all of the ingredients look Halal.
Refill packaging is cost-effective as you don’t have to buy the entire lipstick again. You will get a small cap with the refills so that you can store it in a hygienic way.
Cons
Refill packaging needs to be handled with care and the cap needs to be opened gently. And when in a hurry or if you’re impatient like me then this can be annoying to you.
Since the product is natural, one must remember that the staying power depends on how the product is applied.
Ok so this one thing is a pro and a con too—the refills. If you own 2 or more shades with the bullet, you can’t see the shade names on the bullet. The shade name label is on the refill. So you will have to open each lipstick and check.
Final verdict
The ingredient list, the finish, and the feel of the lipsticks are good. There is room for improvement in packaging and staying power (when used the way I use it). If you’re okay with these 2 drawbacks and want to try a clean beauty-based lipstick or you have finally found YOUR lipstick shade then you can go ahead. I personally loved all the shades. All in all, they are fairly good and if you’re a lipstick junkie or if you love to explore new brands or are a fan of clean beauty then you can definitely try these out. asa is a homegrown brand that adds value to your everyday essentials.
