Hair care is challenging at times, and it requires good hygiene and the proper application of certain products. Your clients’ hair needs to be healthy to grow, so you’ll have to keep certain chemicals away from it to prevent damage. You can’t undo permanent damage to your clients’ hair, so stay away from the factors listed below.
Bleaching
You may find bleach to be an effective solution for achieving a lighter hair color, given its whitening abilities. But bleach has a strong acid base that can damage the cells and proteins in someone’s hair. Natural remedies that can lighten hair include honey, cinnamon, and apple cider vinegar, all of which will cause minimal damage and are easy to acquire for your salon.
Shampooing Without Conditioner
Shampoo is an essential product for cleaning your clients’ hair, but it can also dry out the hair and weaken the roots. Use a conditioner to moisturize hair after shampooing to keep clients’ hair strong and help their locks maintain a healthy glow. This way, you won’t run the risk of permanently damaging their hair simply by brushing it.
Excessive Heat
Heat is an important aspect that you’ll often need to help clients’ hair maintain its shape. But without a heat shield spray, excessive heat can dry out hair and make it brittle. The brittleness will leave a person’s hair susceptible to breaking and cause a loss in elasticity, which will prevent it from returning to its original shape. Use a heat shield spray every time you plan to apply high heat to someone’s hair so that their locks will survive the heat and maintain their ability to shape.
Heavy Weaves and Extensions
When weaves and extensions are thicker, longer, and heavier, they’re more susceptible to gravity, and they’ll create barriers around one’s natural hair. They’ll pull at the natural hair and prevent it from receiving natural sunlight. The sun is a great source of vitamin D, which is necessary for new hair growth. When your client has longer hair extensions, their real hair could experience stunted growth and eventually fall out.
Overbrushing
Cuticles line each strand of hair, protecting it and giving it shine and luster. Brushing one’s hair too much removes these cuticles and could permanently damage the hair from the lack of protection. Tell your client to brush their hair only when necessary to prevent these cuticles from falling off and to give any damaged cuticles time to reform with better durability.
There are multiple ways to permanently damage hair, but for each form of damage, there’s a way to keep the hair healthy. The health of your clients’ hair is important, so make sure you do your best to prevent permanent damage.
