Throughout life, there are various health check-ups that you should regularly attend each year (sometimes every couple of years). Going to health checks isn’t always fun, and it’s easy to put them to the back of your mind and think you will go at one point, but never actually commit. But, you should as if something does crop up – which we hope it doesn’t – the sooner you fix it, the less serious it will become.
Going to the dentist is something you should do each year. You should also try and have eye check-ups regularly to ensure your eye health is as it should be. Another check up that is important and shouldn’t be forgotten about is your hearing – this is less frequent than other check-ups but that doesn’t mean it’s not as important.
Below we look into three health check-ups you shouldn’t forget about. Keep reading to learn more.
Dentist
Looking after your teeth is about much more than having a nice smile. Regular dental appointments can help prevent issues such as cavities, gum disease, and tooth decay before they become more serious and expensive to treat. Dentists are also able to spot early warning signs of other health concerns, including oral cancer and vitamin deficiencies. Even if your teeth feel perfectly fine, routine check-ups and professional cleans are still important for maintaining good oral health long term.
Eye Tests
Eye check ups are very important as they are there to help your sight stay at its best. Regular eye examinations can detect early signs of vision changes as well as underlying health conditions such as glaucoma or high blood pressure. They are also there to spot if there is anything serious happening, such as a detached retina. In a lot of cases your sight will be fine, but they may prescribe you glasses if they think your sight is starting to deteriorate.
Hearing Tests
Hearing checks are often forgotten about because hearing loss can happen gradually over time. Many people don’t realise their hearing has changed until it starts affecting everyday conversations or social situations, which is why it’s important to spot any signs early, instead of leaving it too late. By going to an appointment, you can relax knowing your hearing is hopefully ok and if it’s not, that you can be looked after with the right treatment – in a lot of cases, if your hearing is starting to deteriorate, they may offer you a hearing aid. With technological advancements, you can get really small ones now which are barely noticeable, helping you feel more confident about wearing one, should you need to. There will most likely be reviews you can read if you wanted to.
How good are you at your check ups or do you tend to put them to the back of your mind? What checks do you do each year and what checks do you do every couple of years?
