When we think of cosmetic treatment, it’s very easy to think of the more stark examples of celebrities completely reworking their faces. In some cases, the public backlash to this can be surprising. Recently, actress Erin Moriarty became the target of a social media storm as her appearances differed between seasons of the hit TV show The Boys.

Of course, she’s not the only example. Mickey Rourke, Simon Cowell, Jennifer Lawrence, Sylvester Stallone, there are many big-names that have altered their looks, sometimes for the better, sometimes a little less so, but always with their own consent and that’s important to recognize.

However, it’s also important to note that many, many people have cosmetic surgery, and in 2024 the practice is in no way as taboo as it used to be. Opening our minds towards cosmetic surgery can help us feel less guilty about corrective treatments we may really need or feel confident with, and obfuscate the healthy, justified and understood reasons someone might partake in them.

So, let’s consider how to open our minds and take a new perspective on cosmetic surgery, which remains optional, but shouldn’t be judged:

Cosmetic Surgery & Aging Gracefully Aren’t Necessarily Opposite Approaches

It’s easy to assume you either go through life never having work done, or having it all done. Of course, that’s not true. Cosmetic surgery is often there to help individuals with particular treatments. That might involve breast uplift surgery to help a middle-aged woman retain her confidence after having children or helping someone remove loose skin after significant weight loss. Understanding that helps you avoid viewing these two efforts as opposed approaches.

A Good Portion Of Work Is Hard To Notice

The only reason the stark examples stick out to us is because by and large, most work is hard to spot. From a very light facelift to slight noise work, or even treatments like the aforementioned loose skin treatment, you may not realize someone has had work if they’ve visited a trustworthy and reputable surgeon and have remained moderate with the options they selected. We only really tend to notice when a huge amount is altered at once, or when treatment stacks on treatment in a short amount of time.

Some Treatment Can Be Corrective & Necessary

Of course, it’s not just about treatment that looks good or helps you feel more confident. Cosmetic treatment can also be corrective. For example, rhinoplasty or nose work may help someone breathe more easily through their nostrils, allowing someone to feel healthier and practice good self-care as they get older. Some treatments might be corrective after suffering burns. We’ve also seen how many individuals may reverse difficulties they didn’t ask for, such as growths, moles or even hair transplants for men, which are becoming more subtle and effective than ever.

With this advice, you’re certain to open your mind towards cosmetic treatment, even if you believe it has no place in your life. Step by step, we can bust stigmas and focus on the reality of industries and their users.
